Individual and Couples Counselor

Dr. Cheri Locke, PhD, MA, LPC-S, CST, CCTP

A little about me and how counseling became my saving grace and my passion.

I’m a sex and relationship therapist, and my path to this work is personal. As a child, I experienced trauma at a time when mental health wasn’t openly talked about. My teen years were filled with struggles to make sense of it, and I made choices I later wished I hadn’t.

Even as a young adult, the effects of my past lingered—until I began to find some peace and met the man who would become my husband. But just when life seemed to be on track, postpartum depression hit after the birth of my first son. For a year, I suffered in silence, feeling like my life and my relationship were unraveling. Eventually, our marriage reached a breaking point, and we separated.

Seeking help was a turning point. In therapy, I discovered a powerful truth: I am the only person with power over my life. While I had been a victim in childhood, I didn’t have to carry that into adulthood. Therapy helped me open my eyes, my heart, and my mind—guiding me toward healing, self-compassion, and stronger relationships.

Today, I bring that lived experience and professional expertise to my work with clients. I understand firsthand how past trauma, life transitions, and relationship struggles can feel overwhelming—and I know how transformative it can be to reclaim your power, your voice, and your connection to yourself and your partner.

“My saving grace became my passion”

From My Experience to Yours: Tools for Lasting Change

Therapy changed my life—and my marriage. With guidance, my husband and I learned how to navigate conflict, communicate openly, and rebuild trust. Today, we’re happily married, raising two kids, and living with a deeper understanding of ourselves and each other.

Of course, life still throws challenges our way, but now we have the tools to handle them with confidence and compassion. That’s exactly what I want for my clients: not just temporary relief, but lasting skills they can carry into every part of their lives and relationships. My goal is to help you leave therapy feeling empowered, capable, and ready to create the connection and life you deserve.

Our Therapeutic Relationship

Therapy is a collaborative journey—a partnership between you and your therapist that is unique, personal, and entirely focused on you. As you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, trust becomes the foundation for meaningful growth and change. Individual and couples counseling can be powerful tools for self-discovery, helping you uncover insights and solutions that are already within you.

I feel deeply honored to walk alongside each of my clients. My role is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can explore your life, process your experiences, and move toward healing and transformation. Whether you’re seeking individual guidance, couples counseling, or marriage support, my approach is tailored to meet your unique needs and help you create the change you’re seeking.
